Interpol hit the charts with their 2002 debut Turn on the Bright Lights. The album earned the band critical acclaim and comparisons to Joy Division and the Chameleons. Buoyed by radio play and extensive touring, Interpol became indie-pop poster boys. Interpol’s follow-up album, Antics, showed the band’s more danceable, upbeat side, which helped boost their appeal while still staying true to their indie roots.
The String Quartet Tribute to Interpol is a beautiful tribute that uses string instruments such as violins and cellos to mimic the band’s trademark pulsating guitar riffs and rumbling basslines. These passionate instrumentals heighten the late-night flirtation in such songs as “Take You on a Cruise,” “Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down,” and “Leif Erikson.” The breathtaking interpretations on this album will lead to less dancing and more romancing.
