When desert rock monsters, Kyuss finally imploded, mainmen, Josh Homme & Nick Oliveri formed Queens of The Stone Age with a revolving lineup which has included grunge legends Dave Grohl and Mark Lanegan. At times the band has resembled a music club for some of rock music’s most left field performers. Four albums in, QOTSA has now honed its heavy rock sound into a visceral, hypnotic wall of noise with new album, Lullabies To Paralyze. Stubbornly steering clear of too many radio friendly hits the Queens have found a unique niche creating intelligent, soulful and sometimes challenging music a thousand miles from your average dumb rock band.
This second volume of String versions of Queens of The Stone Age Songs focuses on their new album but also features tracks from their first two releases. These String players tackle some of QOTSA’s best songs like ‘Avon’, ‘The Lost Art of Keeping A Secret’ and ‘Everybody Knows That You’re Insane’ with stunning results. These skilled rearrangements are a great way to rediscover the innovative songwriting of this unique band.
