U2’s 1987 album The Joshua Tree is widely considered to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time. The concept and experience of exploring America inspired the Irish band to write songs of searching, spiritual longing and hope, as well as darker themes like death, suicide, addiction, and American imperialism. The music covers a wide spectrum, from euphoric and uplifting on “Where The Streets Have No Name”, to seething fury on “Bullet The Blue Sky”, to mournful and elegiac on “Mothers Of The Disappeared”; with ringing, spare guitar from Edge, clean but funky bass lines by Adam Clayton, insistent drumming from Larry Mullen Jr., Bono’s soaring and emotive vocals, and Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois’ brilliant production brings all the elements together as a remarkably cohesive whole.
The String Quartet Tribute to U2’s The Joshua Tree features all new string recordings that will change the way you think about both the songs and tribute albums. The melodies, rhythms, and textures are emulated by superb performances and extraordinary arrangements on acoustic and electric strings, and artfully transformed into something that stands on its own as an amazing work of art.
